Afternoon Tea at The Pump Room in Bath

Step into Jane Austen’s world at The Pump Room in Bath and enjoy a quintessentially English afternoon tea.

Accompanying her 11 year old god-daughter to the world famous Pump Rooms in Bath for a traditional afternoon tea, Editor Fiona Gilbert found herself mesmerised by the scale, beauty and elegance of this most stately of Georgian buildings.

Jane Austen, Bath’s most famous resident, spent many an afternoon in Bath’s most elegant Regency eatery and from the moment we stepped through the historic doors it was easy to see why she was so captivated.

The beautifully decorated building is not just a restaurant, but an attraction in its own right. Housed in the historic Roman Baths, The Pump Room, built in 1795, provides visitors with one of Bath’s most stylish backdrops in which to soak up the atmosphere, listen to The Pump Room Trio of musicians and enjoy an afternoon tea.

With its grand columns, magnificent interior and ornate decoration, The Pump Room truly embodies what was once the heart of the Georgian social scene

The famous afternoon tea provides visitors with over 30 loose leaf teas to choose from, a selection of sandwiches, cakes, pastries and homemade scones with clotted cream and strawberry jam. The price may raise eyebrows (prices start from £21 per person) but don’t let the elegance of the display fool you – the food is not only delicious but extremely filling too.
